Nordic Center to host Coke Series race, clinic
The Nordic Center at Purgatory will host the final race in its Coke race series on Saturday.
There will be a 10-kilometer skate ski race for adults plus a 10K fat-tire bike race. The ski race will start at 10 a.m. and the bike race will be at 11 a.m.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Nordic Center, across U.S. Highway 550 and just north of Durango Mountain Resort. Cost of the race is $15 for adults and $7 for juniors.
A representative from Rossignol will be on site offering free ski demonstrations. The representative also will give a free wax clinic at Pine Needle Mountaineering, 835 Main Ave., at 6 p.m. today.
The center also will hold its last skate ski clinic of the season at 1 p.m. Sunday. There will be classes for skiers of all ability levels. The cost is $15 for Nordic season-pass holders or $25 for other skiers. Rental equipment is available.

Grotts, Hummel win Winter Warrior race
Howard Grotts posted the fastest time and Molly Hummel was the overall womens winner of the Winter Warrior 10K snowshoe race Saturday at the Nordic Center at Purgatory.
Grotts covered the 10K course in 55 minutes, 17 seconds, 1:27 ahead of second-place finisher Logan Ott, to claim the Mens Open (ages 14-44) division. Brendan Trimboli was third with a time of 1:00:27. Hummel was timed in 1:20:21.
Other division winners were: Andrew Ferguson, Mens Masters (45 and older), 1:17:14; Connie Gordon, Womens Masters, 1:21:20; Mens Open 5K, Troy Wells, 34:34; Womens Open 5K, Kricket Lewis, 42:57; Mens Masters 5K, Ian Dodd, 1:02:47; Womens Masters 5K, Marjorie Brinton, 46:40.
The race was a qualifier for the U.S. Snowshoe Association National Championships on March 15-17 in Bend, Ore.

A winter nature tour, Big Moon in the La Platas, will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23.
People of all ages are invited to go snowshoeing with the San Juan Mountains Association, in partnership with San Juan National Forest, and certified interpretive guide MK Thompson. Snowshoes will be available for children lighter than 120 pounds.
