As we move into August, we find several Club Championships dot the landscape, so now is the time to fine-tune your game because bragging rights get handed out for the next 365 days.
The Bugler (Men's Member/Guest) tournament will run Thursday through Saturday at Dalton Ranch Golf Club. This has been a mainstay at DRGC since the course opened more than 10 years ago. Dalton also will host its Junior Club Championship on Aug. 11. The UBS Financial Services 3 Clubs and a Putter Tournament, another earmarked stop toward the season-ending Todd Sieger Shootout in Ocotber, has an entry fee of $40 per person and $500 in added purse money. One-hundred percent handicaps will be allowed for this flighted event. Five dollars of every entry fee will be donated to the Durango Cancer Center, so let's sign up today.
Hillcrest held a Pro-Lady tournament July 27, and the team of professional Rob Ruppert and teammates Cindy Bryniarski, Joyce Hondru, Susie Anderson and Trudy O'Brien notched a 204 to take top honors.
Pro Robby Jones and teammates Chris Woodward, Kathy Shoulders, Helen Kimber and Lori Lopez came in second with a score of 206. Bud Andersen's team of Patty Crigler, Cathy Brewer, Lorri Sundheimer and Eve Rupinski captured third at 209. Brandon Baker's team of Amanda Weese, Sandie Gates, Barbara Baker and Becky McLaughlin rounded out the prize winners at 210. The professional sidebar went to Micah Rudosky with a 69, while Shea Sena came in second at 71.
The 29th annual Randango Golf Tournament was held Saturday at Hillcrest, and 19 foursomes competed to help continue the perpetual scholarship fund for deserving high school seniors furthering their athletic endeavors in college.
Dick Vogel, David March, Micah Mobley and Ray Weimer scored a 58 to win first place in the A-Flight. Second place, after a one-hole playoff, went to Dru English, Rocky Ariano, Leroy Lucero and John Thrasher, while Todd Sieger, Alex Emmons, Levi and Ron Rozga finished third.
The overall winner in the B-Flight went to the team of Chris and Ryan Engle, Mike Brown and Donald Ingle at 64. Second place, with a score of 65, went to Steve Thyfault, Mark Larson, Josh Nieman and Jeff Perino, while Lloyd Moore, Cassies Klaess, Paul C. O'Neil and Dave Ruby took third at 66.
Patty Crigler took low gross in the first flight of the latest Ladies Day event July 28 at Hillcrest, while Susanne Yeager and Daphne D'Agostino tied for low net.
Judy Berkholz was low gross in the second flight, with Karen Spickard low net.
Sharon White was low gross winner in the third flight, with Connie Voss low net.
Dee Campbell was low gross first-flight winner in the 9-Hole event, with Diane Skinner low net.
Pat Lamay was low gross winner in the second flight, with Lynn Tingley taking low net.
The Hillcrest Junior Club Championship wrapped up earlier this week, and because of press deadlines, I will have the complete results for you in next week's column.
Congratulations are in order for Tim Bickley, who had a hole-in-one July 25 on the par-3 fifth hole at Hillcrest. Bickley used an 8 iron, as witnessed by Kenny Wood and Christian Manzanares.
