Silverton’s first day of skijoring draws big crowds

Thirteen skiers and 16 riders showed up Saturday for Silverton’s fourth annual skijoring competition, said Laura Des Palmes, one of the event’s organizers. Rider Ems Howard pulls skier Scott Frazer in the Open Class Draw. The event will continue today from 11 a.m. to about 1 p.m., Des Palmes said.

As many as 2,000 spectators came out to watch skiers such as Ryan Jordan launch off jumps and collect rings while being pulled by a speeding horse.
