New Mexico artists to show in Arts Center library
New Mexico artists John Brandi and Tom Leech will open a show of haiga works at 5 p.m. today in Durango Arts Center Art Library. Haiga consists of haiku poetry combined with painting.
Brandi combines his words with paint and ink to create framed pieces using mats of Leechs marbled paper. Leech runs the Palace Print Shop at the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe and is an accomplished maker of paper, paper marbling, letterpress printing and more.
After the opening at 7 p.m., Brandi will give a poetry reading in the Education Space at the Arts Center adjacent to the Art Library. Accompanying Brandi will be Alicia Whiteman of Durango, who will play her saxophone in response to the readings.

Pyle to play Mancos benefit concert March 9
Chuck Pyle, the Zen Cowboy, will perform a benefit concert for the Mancos Heritage Project at 8 p.m. March 9 at Millwood Junction restaurant in Mancos. Opening the show will be regional singer/songwriter Katya Chorover.
The Mancos Heritage Project is a joint effort of the Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Mancos Valley Arts Council, working in collaboration with the Colorado Department of Transportation and the town of Mancos.
The chamber surveyed a number of Mancos businesses to find out what was important to the growth and sustainability of the town. One of the most consistent things mentioned was Pride in our town. The main traffic arteries bypass the heart of Mancos and the goal of the Mancos Heritage Project is to make a significant statement about the town by upgrading the appearance of the traffic-light intersection. All proceeds from this event will benefit the project.
