The weather forced Durango High Schools hand to move up its opening day.
Those hands were ready.
DHS baseball followed up its opening-day 19-6 victory Thursday at Canon City a game originally scheduled for Saturday with a 17-7 win Friday at Pueblo South. The Demons followed up their 17-hit effort with 13 more Friday to start their 2013 season 2-0.
The guys are swingin it well, DHS head coach Rob Coddington said. Weve had a pretty good first couple of games.
So good, Coddington thinks this is the Demons best start in his six years as skipper.
Im really impressed with their effort, he said.
In his first game since transferring from Pagosa Springs High School, Sean Blanchard took the ball and the mound and earned the win for DHS. Blanchard, a senior, allowed four runs three earned on three hits in five innings.
He did a great job throwing strikes, Coddington said. And really, we couldve got him out of a couple of jams, but we made a couple of defensive mistakes; but its early in the season.
Jeremy Szura and Blake Dunlap each pitched an inning of relief.
Offensively, Dunlap was 4-for-4 with a triple, two stolen bases, two runs batted in and three runs scored.
Connor Dugan was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Isiah Mayberry was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in the seventh inning.
