United Way names CEO, president
The board of directors for United Way of Southwest Colorado announces that Lynn Urban has been selected as the new president and CEO for the organization.
She replaces Tim Walsworth. Urban has a doctorate in psychology, has worked in higher education for more than a decade and also operates a small business in partnership with her husband. Most recently, she served as dean for the Durango Campus of Pueblo Community College.
United Way of Southwest Colorado serves communities in Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan counties by providing leadership and fundraising for partner agencies in the areas of education, health care and self-reliance.

Health department announces new hire
San Juan Basin Health Departments Care Coordination Services welcomes Donna Esquibel as its new Promotora (bilingual health educator).
Esquibel has worked in a variety of health-care settings in the area in the last 16 years including home health, youth shelter and hospice.
She has an Associate of Arts in health-care administration. Esquibel will promote health with a focus on cardiovascular health and diabetes by doing health-risk screenings and conducting platicas (educational group meetings) in the Spanish-speaking community.

Insurance, financial advisers to meet
The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors will meet at noon Wednesday at the Strater Hotel in the Oak Room, 699 Main Ave.
The speaker will be Susan Terrill-Flint. She will present a Life Review program for members. The public is welcome.

Human-resources group to meet Wednesday
The Durango Area Human Resource Managers will host a luncheon called Health Care Reform Impact Beyond the Obvious from noon to 1:15 p.m. Wednesdayat La Plata Electric Associations Multi-purpose Room, 45 Stewart St. in Bodo Industrial Park.
The featured speaker will be Jana Knox, senior vice president of The Hays Companies. She will discuss the financial and administrative effects of health-care reform, as well as compliance timelines. The cost is $15 for members and $16 for nonmembers and will include a lunch buffet provided by Zia Taqueria.

Chamber to host business after hours
The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Colorado Pongas, 121 W. Eighth St.
The cost is $7 for members and guests, and there will be free pool.
