STEAMBOAT SPRINGS Routt County Sheriff Garrett Wiggins and Moffat County Sheriff Tim Jantz say they will not enforce gun-control measures signed into law Wednesday by Gov. John Hickenlooper.
Wiggins and Jantz say the legislation passed by Colorados House and Senate wont keep guns out of the hands of criminals and instead will punish law-abiding citizens.
Both sheriffs said Tuesday that gun control has been the top concern of their constituents in recent months.
One new law requires universal background checks that include private-sale purchases. Another limits ammunition magazines to 15 rounds, though existing high-capacity magazines still would be allowed. And a third requires gun purchasers to pay for their background checks.
