Bayfield High School rebounded from a slight loss to a wide win.
The Wolverines baseball team beat Valencia 13-4 on Friday at the Piedra Vista Tournament after losing 4-3 to Farmington on Thursday.
It was a solid rebound, BHS head coach Tom Horton said. I was really hoping they wouldnt be flat after losing that tight one.
The teams tied 2-all coming out of the first inning, the Wolverines runs scored on Clay Millers two-run home run.
Miller was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and six runs batted in, including his homer.
He wouldve won it offensively for us ... with his stick alone, Horton said.
Bayfield scored three runs in the third.
The Jaguars crept within one with a two-run fourth, but Bayfield slugged through an eight-run sixth for the final score.
Matthew Knickerbocker was 2-for-4 with three runs, Kelton McCoy was 2-for-3, and Joey Webb was 2-for-2 with two runs.
We really got the sticks going (Friday), Horton said.
The Wolverines had 15 hits, while Valencia tallied just six.
Hunter Funkhouser got the win on the mound, pitching four innings for four hits and four runs, three of them earned. He had four strikeouts and six walks.
He had a little bit of control issues, but it didnt hurt us, Horton said.
Knickerbocker closed out with three innings of no-hit baseball.
The Wolverines will wrap up the tournament against Miyamura at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Farmington.
