There are days when I love numbers.
Not the numbers that balance your checkbook, not the number of miles you have left in your gas tank before a fill up is imminent, not even the number of pennies you scrape up to plug a self-checkout at the grocery store just to get a soda.
I'm talking about the many names of golfers (each with their own assigned number) who have passed through this column over the 27-plus years I have sat down to type the golfing news of our area. With the law of averages on my side, or literary license, I probably have acknowledged the accomplishments of more than 75,000 golfers as young as 5 years old, all the way up to octogenarians.
