Lawmakers on elections: Mail in the ballots

Bills on the move

The state House of Representatives passed several noteworthy bills Friday.
Elections: All voters would get a mail ballot, and neighborhood polling places would disappear in favor of centralized vote centers. House Bill 1303.
Discrimination: Workplace-fairness laws would apply even to small businesses. HB 1136.
Gas and oil: Spills of more than one barrel would have to be reported to state regulators, and companies would be taxed to pay for local inspectors. HB 1278 and HB 1273.
Firefighter unions: Firefighters could collectively bargain about workplace conditions, but they would need local voter approval to bargain about salary. Senate Bill 25.
All the bills now go to the Senate except SB 25, which goes to the governor.
