Annual wine fest draws some to learn and reflect, others to party
Paul Tocco of Synergy Fine Wines and Eric Allen, co-owner of Wine Merchant, man their tables at the grand tasting tent, on Saturday at the First National Bank of Durango parking lot. Allen featured wines made from the grenache grape, including a rosé, the hot wine this spring season.

Richard Parry of Foxfire Farms expanded his family’s sheep and cattle ranch to include a vineyard. He released his first riesling made of all Colorado-grown grapes and produced by winemaker Guy Drew last year and brought it to the grand tasting tent Saturday at the seventh annual Durango Wine Experience!
Guests at the seminar about the wines of France held Saturday at Cosmo Bar & Dining as part of the Durango Wine Experience! tasted six different wines, from a light and fresh Sancerre to a deep and dark Chateau Lafitte Laujac from the Medoc region.
Jay Fletcher, executive director of fine wines for distributor Southern Wine & Spirits, leads a seminar on the fine wines of France on the rooftop patio of Cosmo Bar & Dining on Saturday. In 1996, Fletcher became just the 30th person from the United States to earn the title Master Sommelier, and he has gone on to train 10 more from Colorado.
