100 years ago: “Agent Brown is considering dividing a portion of the depot platform off with white satin ribbons, for the accommodation of bridal parties. In the past five days eight couples would have been eligible to occupy the allotted space.”
75 years ago: “For the benefit of Durango people planning to use the special airmail service which has been arranged for May 19, a complete schedule has been drawn up, showing the times and places where the planes will make connections.”
50 years ago: “A welcome note to those who have complained of the barrenness of the city yards along the river east of the VFW club will be the planting of about a dozen trees along the river. .. Also in early June an auction will be held of a half-dozen abandoned automobiles which have been stored at the yard.”
25 years ago: “While the funding faucet was being turned off for new water projects, a trickle remained for the Animas-La Plata Project. The U.S. House Appropriations Committee decreed for the first time that there would be no money for new water project starts next year. However, the committee also recommended $1.9 million in construction money for the Animas-La Plata – far less than the $7.8 million that had been requested.”
