I first want to begin this week's article will an addition to results which were inadvertently omitted from my results folder from Hillcrest Golf Club.
I received numerous e-mails, rightfully so, from senior golfers who wanted to know what had happened to the results from the top two flights in the Senior Division of the Aug. 15-16 Mega-Championships at Hillcrest.
Being the good reporter that I am (swift kick to my backside), I found out that one page of results never made it into my Hillcrest Golf Club folder. The powers that be apologize for the omission, and I will now give due where due is due.
The 2009 Hillcrest Senior Club champion is Greg Walsh, who carded a two-day 36-hole score of 3-over-par 145.
Second gross in the Senior A Flight went to Steve Linnemeyer with a 149 with Jim Sher third at 151 and Steve Pease at fourth gross at 154.
Low net went to Ken Van Zee with a 142, while Bill Burns, Mick McDermott and Ray Sigwart tied for second net at 145. Dean Despalmes was fifth net at 148.
Gary Wimsatt captured the Senior B Flight with a low gross score of 175 with Tom White second at 181. Chuck Carman came in third gross at 184, while Marc Goldfarb and Steve McCormack tied for fourth gross with scores of 186.
Mike Amato was low net winner with a 142 with Mike Mericle second net at 145. David Larson was third net at 147 followed by Lawrence Gomez fourth net at 149 and Ron Keller fifth net at 151.
Congratulations and apologies to all.
The Dalton Ranch Golf Club 2009 Men's Club champion is Bob Barnhardt with a 152, while the net club champion, at 144, is Larry Gaughan.
John Folk came in second gross in the Championship Flight with a 157 with Tom Gorton third gross at 161. Chris Engle was low net at 148, while John Ogorzalek and Jim Hollingsworth tied for second net at 151.
Mark Hill was low gross winner in the First Flight with a 161 with John Simms second gross at 165 and Nick Blasdell third gross at 169.
John Betka took low net at 146, while John Wilken and Ray Baker tied for second net at 147. Ron Sargent was low gross winner in the Second Flight with a 169 followed by Jim Brady in second at 171 and Dave Ganevsky third gross at 175. Marty Gunn took low net honors with a 147 followed by Mike Eberspacher second net at 149 and Fred Okun third net at 150.
Hop Lee, behind low net champion Larry Gaughan, came in second gross in the Third Flight with a 181 with Mason Miller third gross at 187.
Rod Ems was low net winner with a 148 with George Reynolds second net at 149 and Joe Cheavens third net at 154.
The 14th annual Dudley Engle Golf Tournament, which raises funds for the many charitable causes supported by the Durango Emblem Club No. 131, saw a fun day of golf Aug. 22 at Hillcrest.
This unconventional format, but comfortably conventional to those who know Dudley, rests its outcome on several dynamic factors affecting the trajectory of the ball toward some of Dudley's favorite hideaways (like trees and a downright fear of getting anywhere near the green on the first shot).
So, the Glacier Club Prize (golf for four and carts at GC) for overall stability on unpredictable course conditions goes to Tom McCall and Ryan Engle.
The closest to the hole on No. 5 prize (preseason Broncos tickets, thanks to Stan Crapo at Star Liquors) goes to Luke Bryson.
The Hunters Run golf prize for closest to the tree on No. 10 goes to Katie Riley and, not to be outdone, the farthest from hole on No. 5 prize (roundtrip for two on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad) goes to Cindy March. Thanks to all the sponsors who helped keep this community project ongoing.
Upcoming events include the Excell Computer Supplies Hillcrest Men's Senior Open, a Colorado Golf Association points event, which will be held Saturday and Sunday.
There is $500 in added prize purse, and the minimum age to enter this 36-hole stroke play event is 50.
Tee times begin at 9 a.m. both days.
Also, keep in mind the 35th annual First National Bank A-B-C-D Four Person team event will be Sept. 5 at Hillcrest.
