South Fork residents return home; haze expected to linger over Durango
Smoke from the West Fork Complex fires fills the Animas Valley on Friday. Forecasters say high pressure will trap the haze over the Durango area until at least the Fourth of July.
Tips to cope with wildfire smoke

The San Juan Basin Health Department issued a health advisory Friday afternoon for La Plata and San Juan counties because of degraded air quality from smoke from the West Fork Complex northwest of Wolf Creek Pass. Archuleta County remains under a health advisory.
The elderly, young children, pregnant women and those with pre-existing circulatory or respiratory conditions should limit outdoor activity when smoke is visible in the sky, the advisory said.
Smoke can irritate the eyes and airways, causing coughing, a scratchy throat, irritated sinuses, headaches, stinging eyes or a runny nose. For those with heart or lung disease, smoke can make symptoms worse; they may experience chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath or fatigue.
The health department advised that if people can smell smoke or begin to experience symptoms, they should consider temporarily locating to another area as long as it is safe to do so.
Seek out locations where air is filtered. Local health officials can help locate places with better air quality during extended smoke episodes.
At night, smoke may move in different directions, and can be heavy. It tends to be worse near dawn. The department advises to close bedroom windows at night.
