In Montezuma County, it’s not as lonely as you think
Chuck McAfee, a Democrat living in Montezuma County, is registered as a Republican out of necessity. “At the moment, I’m a Republican because it’s the only way you get to have much of a voice here,” says McAfee.
Democrat Ric Plese, owner of the Cliffrose in Cortez, relishes his role in the political minority in Montezuma County. “My philosophy has not been to roll over and play dead.” he says.
Lewis resident Chuck McAfee said he made a “tactical error” in running for the Montezuma County Commission as a Democrat about 10 years.
