That’s no doggie in the window

Eight-year-old Bailey Smith from Bellingham, Wash., looks in wonder at the LEGO creations by Sam Bridgham in the window of Studio & on Main Avenue. Bridgham is a father of two and son of an engineer who has been exploring LEGOs as an art form for years. “With complex, interconnected structures, I try to build as a child would, free from preconceptions and restraints. Combined with an adult ability to carry out long-term projects and the knowledge only time and experience can bring, I’m able to work and play well in both worlds,” he said of his art.
Sam Bridgham’s LEGO creations move, do work and even launch paper airplanes. This “creature” crawls on battery power.
A working conveyer belt is among the many functional LEGO creations by Sam Bridgham on display in the window of Studio & on Main Avenue.
If you go

Sam Bridgham will give an artist’s talk and workshop on the art of LEGOS on Thursday at Studio &, 1027 Main Ave. The talk will begin at 5 p.m. and is free; the workshop will begin at 6:30 p.m. and costs $7 ($5 for children younger than 12). For more information, visit www.anddurango.com.
