Mushroom talk, walk to be held Aug. 3
A “Mushroom Talk and Walk” with Chris Ricci of Majesty Mushrooms will take place Aug. 3 at Durango Natural Foods, 575 East Eighth Ave.
Ricci will offer an informative talk about local wild mushrooms and will field questions for one hour. Participants are invited to bring in specimens to identify.
He will then lead a mushroom foray to Coal Bank Pass. A $10 donation is suggested for the foray. The caravan will leave from Durango Natural Foods at 3:15 p.m. The talk and questions will take place at 2 p.m.

Bayfield library offers baby sitter training
The Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, will offer a free baby sitter training class for Bayfield-area teens from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 1 and 2.
The two-day course trains teens, 12 years and older, on basic child care, nutrition, diapering, entertaining kids and more. It also features a full-day CPR/ First Aid training, allowing teens to receive CPR/First Aid cards from the American Red Cross.
Advance sign-up is required. Teens also have to apply for the course.
Applications are available at www.prlibrary.org. Applications are due Thursday. Applicants will be notified Friday about whether they have been accepted.
In addition to training new baby sitters, the library will offer a limited number of class spaces for teens who want to recertify their CPR/ First Aid cards. The cost for recertification is $30.
Incubator program to be held at Old Fort
The Old Fort Market Garden Incubator Program will host an open house from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Old Fort at Hesperus, 18683 Colorado Highway 140, 5 miles south of U.S. Highway 160.
Participants should park near the library and follow signs to the incubator plots. Participants will tour the 6.5-acre Market Garden Incubator site; meet the incubators; and learn about the process for fall applications.
Drinks will be provided, and people should wear appropriate walking shoes and be prepared for unexpected weather.
The incubator program’s mission is to offer an alternative point of entry for beginner farmers in the Four Corners, providing them with access to support services that enable them to develop the skills necessary to succeed. The program will be releasing applications for the 2013 season in October.

Donations accepted for fallen hot shots
Local Wildland Firefighters and members of Durango Fire & Rescue Authority will collect donations from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today in front of Albertsons, 311 W. College Drive.
All proceeds will go to the families of the Granite Mountain Hotshots out of Prescott, Ariz., through the Wildland Firefighters Foundation. Nineteen Granite Mountain Hotshots died June 30 while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire south of Prescott.
