Possible mill levy increase discussed
A meeting open to the public will take place at 6:45 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway, to ask for input on a proposed mill-levy increase for the Pine River Cemetery District.
This is a meeting to determine the opinion of the public and decide if there is enough support to go to the voters with this request in the November election. The cemetery district will have significant financial difficulties stemming from declining revenue.
If revenue does not increase, the district will need to make substantial cuts in expenses. A mill levy of 0.15 would be sought. The cost of the increase for the owner of a home worth about $250,000 would be $1.50 per year.
