DHS football fundraiser will be Saturday
Durango High School Football will host a scrimmage and barbecue from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Durango practice field.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available for $10. All proceeds will go to Durango football to buy safe equipment for players.
Elks to collect items for mothers in need
A communitywide baby shower for mothers in need will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Durango Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave.
The shower will benefit area moms who need help with infant and toddler supplies. All items collected will be distributed through La Plata Family Center Coalition and Mercy Regional Medical Center’s Nursery Department.
The Elks ask people to bring a new, unwrapped infant to toddler size baby item, gift card or cash donation.
The Elks will treat participants to light snacks, beverages and desserts and will offer door prizes and a baby shower atmosphere.

Bayfield library to host summer reading parties
Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, will host these summer reading parties:
A “Beneath the Surface” party for teen summer reading participants will take place at 1 p.m. Monday. The event will feature an obstacle course in which teens can earn extra entries into the grand prize drawing.
The Adult Summer Reading Program will end with the “Traveling through Central Europe” class at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the library community room. Participants will be invited to share in refreshments and listen to presenter Frank Fristensky discuss tourism, history and the heritage of former Soviet-bloc countries.
The children’s final party will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday. There will be face painting, cupcake decorating, and a piñata, as well as the grand prize drawing.

Bayfield library to host game day
Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, will host “Game Day” from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the library community room.
All ages are welcome. This free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Pine River Library and features board games and refreshments in a family-friendly atmosphere.
No advance sign-up is required. “Game Days” take place on the last Sunday of each month.
