Durango to host budget workshop
The city of Durango is planning for the 2014 budget and will hold a public workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday in City Council Chambers in Durango City Hall, 949 East Second Ave.
In addition to learning more about the city’s budget and budget process, residents are encouraged to bring ideas and suggestions, which will be considered by the city manager and staff members. The budget usually is adopted at a City Council meeting in the fall and goes into effect the first of the year.

Americorps members to host fundraiser
Local Americorps members will participate in “Colorado Cares Day,” which is today.
They will sell cold drinks, donated by Coca-Cola Durango, during the Fiesta Days Parade at 10 a.m. today on Main Avenue. Proceeds will be used to buy socks for local firefighters. These Americorps members are coming to the end of their year of service, which they did through locally based Regional Substance Abuse Prevention Partners.

Bird walk to take place
A bird walk will be hosted by the Durango Bird Club at 9 a.m. Wednesday at For the Birds, 1560 East Second Ave.
The walks last about 1 hour, 15 minutes. Participants should bring binoculars. The walk is free, but donations to the hosting group are welcome.

Central European countries discussed
Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, will host “Traveling through Central European Countries” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
This free program will focus on former communist bloc countries, the lesser-known history of the area and why the area is becoming a tourist hot spot. Presenter Frank Fristensky was born and raised in the former Czechoslovakia and has traveled extensively through the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, Croatia and other European countries. The presentation is the final event for the library’s adult summer Reading program. Winners of the grand prize drawing will be announced at the event. Refreshments will be served.

FLC trustees board to go on a retreat
The Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College will have a planning retreat beginning at noon Thursday and concluding at 3 p.m. Friday at the Haskell House, 5 Kennebec Court.
No action or public comment will be taken. Executive session may be convened for purposes of receiving legal advice about specific legal questions that may arise during the discussions.
