Representing oneself in court to be discussed
A free workshop called “See You in Court,” a primer on how to represent oneself in court proceedings, will be offered from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the meeting room of the La Plata County Courthouse, 1060 East Second Ave.
The workshop will cover basic court processes, how to act in court, alternatives to dispute resolution such as mediation, and where to find free legal information and resources. The workshop is designed for people appearing in court without an attorney. Sponsored by Alternative Horizons, the Women’s Resource Center and the 6th Judicial District Self-Help Center. Reservations are required.

Back Country Horsemen to meet
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at Pine River Senior Center, 111 W. South St. in Bayfield.
Guests are encouraged to attend. Margie Coates will discuss Leave No Trace principles and how to leave the wilderness as it was found.

Bluegrass fundraiser to benefit Nature Studies
Durango Nature Studies will host its fifth annual bluegrass fundraiser from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Rotary Park.
The cost is $5 per person payable in advance at Maria’s Bookshop or Bandwagon Music or $7 at the door. Kids 6 and younger will be admitted for free. The bands will include Chicken Strange, Flume Canyon Boys, and Waiting on Trial. Beer, root beer, brats and pizza will be available for purchase.

Durango bank to host appreciation barbecue
Pine River Valley Bank will host a community appreciation barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 9 in the parking lot of the Durango branch, 1701 Main Ave.
The event will feature food from TJ’s Smoke Ring BBQ.
