OK, I get the “save the planet” idea with the plastic bags. I usually bring my germ-laden cloth bags to the grocery store, unless I forget. What I don’t get is why nobody is complaining about paying 10 cents for paper bags. We used paper long before plastic came into use.
If you have ever been to Oregon and Washington, you can see where Weyerhaeuser and other lumber companies cut and replant the trees almost immediately. If they did not, they would be out of business. Paper is a sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable product. So, why are we having to pay for paper bags? Unless, this is a way for the City Council to tax us into paying more money at a place where we already spend a great deal – at the grocery store.
