We have had bookend weather patterns this season, which created postponements for some of the earlier scheduled golf tournaments.
The Golfing for Kids with Disabilities tournament was postponed and will now play Saturday at Hillcrest Golf Club. As with all postponements, some of the originally signed-up players have opted to play other events (such as the rescheduled St. Columba tournament and a benefit tournament for a local resident battling cancer).
I have a challenge for all local golfers: Let's make it a marathon weekend and play all three events; let's show them that Southwest Colorado is a leader in caring for those in the community.
The Golfing for Kids with Disabilities event tees off at 11 a.m. Saturday. Lunch will be served after the event, and there are a lot of great prizes, including a chance to win $10,000. Proceeds are used to help families which have children with developmental disabilities for medical bills, travel to see specialists or surgery and therapies not covered by insurance.

Louisa's Movie House Fall Classic was held last weekend at HGC, and the team of Greg Walsh and Steve Pease took top honors in the Championship Flight with a low gross score of 130. Jim Sher and Justin Lyons were second at 135, while Bill Burns and Kermitt Barrett came in third with a 137.
John Hall and Ron Luna were low net at 122, followed by Michael Thomas and Pamela Martinez at 129 and Dennis Hunt and Pat Gordon at 130.
Dan Ruff and Jim Howell captured low gross honors in the First Flight with a 146, while Chris Engle and Dennis Brennan came in second at 148 and Chris Atcitty and Kay Rogers third at 149.
Alex Emmons and Joe Gardner finished low net with at 126, with Bill Hargis and Terry Roberds second at 127. Brian Smith and Steve Boardman tied Don Cumm and Doug Goldsmith for third with 131s.
John Ball and Ken Van Zee took low gross honors in the Second Flight with a 151, with Gary Wimsatt and Jo Warfield second at 158. Mick Crom and Troy McLaughlin were third at 159.
Mike Goen and Pat Otero finished low net at 127, followed by Brian Dommer and Tom Breed at 128 and Rick Wright and Bob Horvat at 131.
Chuck Pierce teamed with Ron Keller for low gross honors in the Third Flight with a 161. Barry Hilmer and Bruce Miller tied Gary Meredith and Richard Koch for second with 168s.
Davin Gomez and Jeff Gallegos took low net with a 129, with Cindy Atcitty and Jeanine Gerity second at 131 and Ron and Cindy Cuthbert third at 132.
The annual Beat the Pro and Club Champion event highlighted the Hillcrest Ladies Day activities Sept. 15. All of the teams - Ann Emigh and Wilma Sexton; Karen Spickard and Rita Davis; Jeanine Gerity and the ever-popular Blind Draw; Daphne D'Agostino and Debbie Marquart; Eve Rupinski and Susan Weirather; Nancy Barr and Macky Headrick; and Pam Leisle and Mary Kay Aigner - beat a net score of 65 set by the club pro and club champion.
Val Munro, Sheila Moring and Donell Deane won the nine-hole competition.
Dalton Ranch Golf Club will host the annual Four Corners Stroke Play event Saturday and Sunday with tee-times beginning at 9:30 a.m. both days.
