I’m sure an op-ed from someone who’s had a negative experience with Obamacare and/or ConnectforHealthCo is forthcoming (sarcasm), but until then, I’d like to point out a few things in response to Chip Tuthill’s glowing praise of what has by most accounts been a horribly botched rollout of Obamacare (Herald, Dec. 1). First, I’m amazed at how anyone could honestly think that their health insurance through Obamacare is cheaper than on the private market – while utilizing a subsidy to do so. Do they not understand what a subsidy is? Just for clarification, the American taxpayer is picking up the tab on what Tuthill supposedly saving, so you’re welcome. A product costs what it costs, just because someone else is paying for part of it for you doesn’t mean it’s any cheaper to purchase overall.
Second, if Obamacare and the exchanges work so well, why is it necessary to publish articles about it? To quote Shakespeare’s Hamlet “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” Last week I made several purchases on Amazon.com – guess what, everything I ordered showed up to my door! I almost wrote an op-ed to the Herald letting readers know how great Amazon worked for me, but instead, I figured I had better get to work so I can provide for all of my family’s needs as well as Tuthill’s new Obamacare Silver Plan.
