Purgatory celebrations this season

Events
Dec. 11: A release party in honor of the commemorative book Close to Heaven, 50 Years of Purgatory will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Maria’s Bookshop, 960 Main Ave. The store will hold a drawing for four free lift passes and other giveaways.
Dec. 14: The hunt for the Golden Pass starts. Clues about where to find a Golden Pass hidden in Durango will be given on Radio 101.3 KIQX-FM or 100.5 KRSJ-FM four times a day. Winners will receive free season passes.
Feb. 5-7: Purgatory’s 50th Anniversary Reunion Weekend Celebration. The party will celebrate the past five decades at Purgatory with reunion events and activities, 1965-inspired costumes and concerts. Fireworks, a torchlight parade, a historical picture re-enactment contest and trivia contest will also be held.
April 2: Costume party at Purgatory. Attendees are encouraged to dress up like an angel or demon. Enjoy a concert and carnival games on the ski beach.
Exhibits
Purgatory has several exhibits already set up, including a timeline at the ticket office, historical photos in the lobby inside Purgatory Rentals and in Purgy’s. More exhibits will be set later in December at the Village Center and Dante’s.
Jan. 15: A historical exhibit on the history of skiing in Durango will open at the Animas City Museum, 3065 West Second Ave. The exhibit will start in 1874 and cover skiing through the 1990s.
