Four times over the last four months I have asked the office of Rep. Scott Tipton to point me to the data that he relied on to vote to cut $40 billion from the food stamp program over the next 10 years. After three requests, I got a boilerplate letter that did not address my specific question; my fourth request has been ignored.
Maybe with the data in hand I could understand why SNAP was chosen for cuts and to the tune of $40 billion. I can only conclude there is no data, just ideology.
I am disappointed and indignant that I could not get a straight answer, but no more so than the 3.8 million people to be denied food stamps this year under the plan and 14 million over the next 10 years (source: Congressional Budget Office).
