The Palisade Bulldogs were undefeated at home.
The Durango High School girls soccer team hadn’t won since March 14.
It didn’t matter for the Demons.
Stephie Wilson scored both goals in a 2-1 win for Durango (3-3-2) against the No. 9 team in the CHSAANow.com Class 4A rankings.
“It was a big, big win for us,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said. “When we try to compete to get into the playoffs, they look at us against that Western Slope League.”
Palisade (7-2) was 5-0 at home but lost its previous game against Battle Mountain to fall into second place in the WSL.
DHS broke a two-game losing streak with the victory and snapped a five-game stretch without a win.
“We’re starting to find ourselves a little bit,” Parker said. “We possessed the ball really well for longer spurts than they did. That will to want to win came out (Saturday).”
The Demons will return home for their next game at 5 p.m. Thursday against Montezuma-Cortez at Riverview Sports Complex.
After that, they’ll travel to Colorado Springs to take on Coronado at 3:30 p.m. Friday and Pine Creek at 11 a.m. Saturday.
“If we want to make any type of run toward the playoffs, for the scond half of the season, we need to take care of business,” Parker said. “We need to take the good things we did and bring them into next week and take the bad things and work on them in practice.”
