The Bayfield High School basketball teams will help launch the new season with a Purple and Gold Night on Friday at the
"It's going to be our mini-version of 'midnight madness' on the college level," Bayfield athletic director Dave
"It's a regular practice for all of our teams ... varsity, JV, C teams. We'll have races ... and games and other
events for spectators," Preszler said.
"And we'll have the band here .... We're hoping to raise a little money and have some fun," he said.
Proceeds from the night's festivities will go back into the Bayfield basketball programs, he said.
The night's fun and games will begin at 6 p.m.
"We'll close right at 9 o'clock and go right on to Thanksgiving," Preszler said, adding that the Wolverines hope to
make the Purple and Gold Night an annual promotion.
He said area officials have been invited to work with the players and "knock the rust off."
The Bayfield varsity teams also will be featured. They are led by Stephanie Dennison, returning to direct the BHS
girls program, and Bill Hesford, who is taking over the BHS boys program after former head coach Chad Nachtrieb
returned to the Front Range for family reasons.
The first games for the Bayfield teams will be Dec. 1 at home against Piedra Vista.
The BHS boys then will head to the Kirtland Tournament on Dec. 2-5. The Bayfield girls will compete in the Shiprock
Tournament on the same dates.
