The Bayfield High School boys basketball team picked up its third victory of the season with a 68-41 win over visiting Sangre de Cristo on Wednesday night.
"The guys responded very well," BHS boys coach Chad Nachtrieb said Thursday. "We played well in every quarter."
Logan Funkhouser led the Wolverines with a season-high 19 points in the nonleague victory. Kaleb Zink scored 11 points, Jesse McCoy 10 and Dakota Decker six.
"Everybody scored, which was good to see. Everybody played," Nachtrieb said as the BHS boys improved to 3-10.
The BHS girls varsity collected its 12th win of the season with a 50-29 nonleague victory over the Sangre de Cristo girls Wednesday night.
Bayfield is 12-3 overall, 3-0 in the Intermountain League.
Bayfield, which shot 52 percent in the game, led 19-6 after the first quarter and 36-8 at the half.
"We only pressed in the first quarter, and we started the varsity for only two quarters," BHS girls coach Stephanie Dennison said Thursday.
"We bumped up some more JV players, so they got a lot more varsity time."
Lindsey Shaw led Bayfield with 11 points. Myra Dean scored nine and Amanda Broad eight.
Jacey Sirios had a team-high five rebounds and four assists, and Lindsey Lind led the Wolverines with four steals.
Bayfield will play a pair of Intermountain League games today against Centauri at La Jara.
The girls varsity game will start at 6:30 p.m., with the boys varsity to follow.
