The Bayfield High School girls basketball team evened its early season record with a 61-41 victory over Red Mesa on
Thursday in the annual Shiprock Tournament.
We played a lot better than we did Tuesday night," Bayfield head coach Stephanie Dennison said. Those first-game
jitters were gone. The girls were ready to play."
Bayfield bolted to a 28-19 halftime lead as the Wolverines improved to 1-1 on the season.
Jacey Sirios led the Bayfield offense with 17 points.
Candace Shaw had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Kayla McCormick added nine points.
Sister Laurel McCormick led the Wolverines in rebounding with a game-high 13.
She set a goal for herself to focus on her rebounding," Dennison said. She did a good job."

The Bayfield girls will play today (7 p.m.) against either Shiprock or San Juan, Utah.
