Happy birthday, Kerr House

The Kerr House, built in 1884, celebrated its 130th birthday Sunday thanks to “caretaker” Marie Roessler. The house was built by Thomas A. Kerr in 1884. He was one of La Plata County’s earliest commissioners.
Thomas A. and Mary (Zimmerman) Kerr in 1895, the year of their marriage, made their home in the Kerr House, which he built in 1884 for his first wife, Isabell, and family.
Thomas A. Kerr’s home and farm were quite the going concern in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It included a greenhouse, far left, and home for a family with 12 children.
Thomas A. Kerr, who built this house in 1884 for his large family, had quite the green thumb, with a flourishing orchard, greenhouse and garden.
