One network wasn’t enough to contain the excitement of the Fort Lewis College homecoming football game.
FLC played the No. 15 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on Thursday in the first night game played at Ray Dennison Memorial Field in seven years. It also was the first nationally televised game in FLC Skyhawks history. The game was carried by CBS Sports Network as its Division II Game of the Week.
But the Skyhawks landed more TV time on ESPN’s highlight-driven SportsCenter.
A remarkable catch made by Orediggers’ Diamond Gillis over FLC cornerback Theo Chambers checked in as the No. 4 play of the day’s Top 10. It was a big fourth-down conversion for the Orediggers on the game’s opening drive and set the tone for their 56-14 win.
Quite the feat for two Division II schools on a night when the World Series matchup was finalized, and an NFL game was played.
