The computer log from which a summary of minor law-enforcement and fire-department incidents is published in The Durango Herald on Page 3A has been condensed, said Capt. Micki Browning of the Durango Police Department.

“The Blotter” carried items from the Durango Police Department, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, the Bayfield Marshal’s Office, Fort Lewis College, county animal control and fire agencies. The service was suspended several weeks ago pending the upgrading of a computer system.

Browning said Monday, however, that no narrative nor a detailing of the responding agencies will be supplied with log items.

Only the date, time and location of calls and a one- or two-word description of the nature of the complaint will be provided to the news media.

Browning said the new format satisfies internal departmental requirements and complies with the open-records requirement.

The former format, which provided a short narrative version of what ensued, was provided to the news media as a courtesy, Browning said.
