Having served as interim human resources director for Durango School District 9-R from February through June 2009, and
having earned my living as an organizational facilitator for almost 40 years, I am hopefully in a position to make some
valid observations with respect to the organization.
In sum, Durango can be proud of its school district.
Teachers, support personnel, administrators, parents, unions and citizen volunteers - including board members - work
effectively on behalf of the kids. Chief Financial Officer Laine Gibson's opinion piece (Herald, Dec. 27) illustrates
facing up to problems, transparency, listening and determination.
While Gibson makes the environmental turbulence clear, community awareness, belt tightening and pursuit of common
ground will make the best of a difficult situation.
