The Durango Friends of the Arts earlier this week awarded 2010 grant monies to 14 local organizations. A steering
committee made up of members of the nonprofit organization selected the recipients.
The organizations chosen to receive DFA grants are: The Animas Music Festival; Durango Dumpster Beautification
Project; Durango Arts Center, or DAC, after school scholarships; DAC Kids Friday Arts and Theater; Durango Cowboy
Poetry Gathering In School Program; Durango Performing Arts Company's production of The Secret Garden"; DPAC's Music
Theatre Rush; DPAC's Summer Performing Arts Camp; Friends of Native Culture Chimney Rock; Music in the Mountains Goes
to School; San Juan Symphony Youth Outreach and Education Program; Jeff Solon's Live Music in the Schoolhouse; and
Take the Lead" classroom ballroom dance instruction.
Grant applications are available each September and presented in November for consideration. DFA is a not-for-profit,membership organization whose many fundraising activities throughout the year help generate funds used wholly for
grants that support the arts in the local community.
