Changing the dispersal of the off-highway vehicle fees paid by OHV enthusiasts should be seriously considered only when
all public land users pay a registration fee to use our public lands.
I agree that a small portion of the OHV community misuses our public lands and should be policed. However, the same can
be said for hikers, backpackers, cyclists and equestrians. I am a regular reader of the Opinion section and recall
heated letters last summer regarding sharing of trails among cyclists and hikers with dogs-off leash.
Every user group can have a bad apple. All users should have an annual registration fee; OHV users should not be
singled out. Then the percentage split of where the fees are allocated should be logically and analytically divided
such that proper policing, trail maintenance, etc., will be funded by all.
