BAYFIELD - Bayfield School District has announced three finalists for superintendent. The successful candidate will replace Superintendent Don Magill, who will retire at the end of June.
The finalists, announced Tuesday, are Kevin Chalfant of Colorado Springs, Rick Ivers of La Jara and Stephen Yost of Hamilton, Miss.
Bayfield board members and community panelists will interview the candidates Feb. 21. They hope to hire one by March 23. The new superintendent will start work July 1.
"We had a number of very fine candidates apply for the position of superintendent of this district," said Barbara Wickman, president of the Bayfield board.

Chalfant now is principal of Peyton High School in Peyton, northeast of Colorado Springs. Peyton High has 254 students and scored "high" on its 2007-08 state School Accountability Report for academic performance and academic growth.
Chalfant previously served as a high school principal in Crowley County and as a teacher in Woodland Park; Rockwell, Iowa; and Lustre, Mont., beginning in 1976.
Ivers has served as assistant superintendent in the 1,075-student North Conejos School District since 2007. He previously worked as an elementary school principal in North Conejos and Center. He began teaching in Albuquerque Public Schools in 1988.
Yost has been superintendent of Hamilton School District in Hamilton, Miss., since 2005. The district has about 800 students. Yost previously worked as a principal, assistant principal, teacher and coach beginning in 1979.
Magill has served as superintendent of Bayfield schools since 1998. Enrollment has risen 30 percent during Magill's tenure, from 1,035 in 1998 to 1,345 in fall 2008.
