Tournament play begins for real this weekend at the Hillcrest Golf Club, as the JTM Music/ABCD Blind Draw Scramble kicks off the regular tourney calendar Saturday.
There is $500 in added prize purse, and the entry fee is $35 per person. Ninety-percent handicaps will be used for scoring, net only.
Activities begin with coffee and doughnuts at 7:30 a.m., followed by the drawing for each team at 8 a.m. A shotgun start is scheduled at 9 a.m. Call the Hillcrest Pro Shop at 247-1499 to see if there is still room in the event – the first in a series of scheduled tournaments to qualify for the season-ending Shoot-out Oct. 3.
Dalton Ranch Golf Club
The first “unofficial” Ladies Play Day will be April 29 at Dalton Ranch Golf Club. Action gets underway with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
The first “official” Ladies Play Day at Dalton will be May 20, coinciding with the spring meeting for the DRGC Women’s Golf Association.
The start of the 2015 Dalton Ranch Couples Tournaments is May 3. There will be six monthly couples events through October. Check with the clubhouse – or this column – for advance announcements.
Looking ahead on the DRGC calendar, mark down May 15 for the Durango Foundation for Educational Excellence event and the Spring Four Ball tournament May 16-17. These two tournaments highlight a sensational May at Dalton.
Hillcrest Golf Club
The Hillcrest Women’s Golf Association Opening Night Dinner will be May 4, starting with registration and appetizers at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Cost of the dinner is $10 and the cost to join the HWGA for the season is $20.
The HWGA has Tuesday Ladies Day events throughout the season, starting May 5.
This year there will be three divisions of play – 18 holes, nine holes and a Swingers nine-hole flight, which plays for fun with no scoring or prize money involved.
You must RSVP at the Hillcrest pro shop for the opening night dinner.
As you may know, I like to occasionally branch out beyond the Durango-area courses with events and news from around the area. Recently, Marshall Lambrecht aced the fourth hole at the South Forty nine-Hole course in Cortez. Congrats, Marshall.
Also, Riverview Golf Course in Kirtland, New Mexico, will host the first Riverview Ladies Antelope Romp on May 7. Give Riverview a call to find out how to sign up.
And mark your local golf calendar for two May events at Hillcrest Golf Club, with the Express Employment Professionals Best Ball and Scramble on May 9-10 and the long-standing Morehart-Murphy Auto Center Youth Baseball event May 24-25.
On a side note, it was about time Jim Furyk grabbed the brass ring again with his sudden-death victory in last weekend’s RBC Heritage PGA Tour event. Furyk had numerous top-10 finishes in 2014, and it was great to see him outlast some of the young guns on the tour.
