High school wrestlers head into make-or-break regional tournaments today with coveted berths to the Colorado High
School Activities Association State Wrestling Championships on the line.
Wrestlers in each school classification will compete today and Saturday in an effort to qualify for the state
tournament Feb. 18-20 at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
The Durango High School wrestlers will join 14 other teams at the Class 5A Regionals at Heritage High School in
Wrestling begins at 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. Saturday.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the Class 5A state tournament.
In addition to the Demons, the regional field includes Abraham Lincoln, Arapahoe, Centaurus, Coronado, Doherty, Boulder
Fairview, Fruita Monument, Grandview, Heritage, Montbello, Rampart, Rocky Mountain, Standley Lake and Westminster.
The Bayfield High School wrestlers will compete in the Class 3A Southern Regionals at Trinidad High School. Again, the
top four wrestlers in each weight class will qualify for state.
Bayfield's regional field includes Colorado Springs Christian, Centauri, Dolores Huerta (Pueblo), Florence, Manitou
Springs, Monte Vista, Pagosa Springs, Platte Canyon, Rye, St. Mary's and Trinidad.
Wrestling will begin at 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Ignacio High School wrestlers will compete in the Class 2A South Central Regionals in Center. The tournament opens
at 5:15 p.m. today. Sessions resume at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Bobcats are in a 16-team regional tournament along with Antonito, Centennial (San Luis), Center, Creede, Cripple
Creek, Custer County (Westcliffe), Del Norte, Hoehne, John Mall (Walsenburg), La Veta, Mountain Valley (Saguache),Sanford, Sangre de Cristo, Sargent and South Park.
