Animas River Days’ 2015 festival makes a big splash

A large crowd fills Santa Rita Park on a hot, sunny Saturday to watch around 100 competitors kayak, paddleboard and raft the rapids.

Ross Montandon traveled all the way from Nottingham, England, to compete in several kayak competitions in North America, including the Animas River Days kayak slalom competition, which took place Saturday morning at Santa Rita Park.
“C’mon, Nate! Go! Go! Go!” yelled Nancy Foster, center, while cheering on her son, Nate Foster, 13, who was competing in the Animas River Days kayak slalom competition Saturday morning at Santa Rita Park.
