The final brackets are set
After another full day of youth hockey at the annual President's Day Tournament at Chapman Hill, the teams are lined up
for today's championship and third-place games.
In the Bantam Division (ages 13-15), the Durango Bantams, as the No. 2 seed, will play No. 1 seed Littleton for the
tournament championship at 11:45 a.m. today.
The Durango Bantams won two games Sunday, defeating Crested Butte 3-0 and New Mexico 5-0.
Gabe Tonnessen, Riley Quigley and Nick Tarpley scored to support goalie Matt Mandelski in the opener. Quigley and Liam
Miller also had assists.
Kyle Truax had two goals in the win over New Mexico. Quigley, Cameron Treharne and Mason Johnston also scored.
Mandelski again was in goal.
Assists went to Danny Cummins, Ezekiel Soignier, Sara Martin and Truax.
In the Pee Wee Division (ages 9-12), the Durango Pee Wees will play in the third-place game at 8 a.m. today against
Durango dropped a pair of heartbreakers Sunday. The local Pee Wees lost 2-1 to Los Alamos in the morning game. The lone
goal came from Rex Stowers, assisted by Kele Steffler.
In the final game of the night, Rio Rancho rallied with a game-winning goal in the final minute of play to top the
Durango Pee Wees 3-2. Brad Tarpley and Tim Martin scored for Durango.
Christopher Carr of Rio Rancho had a hat trick, including the game-winner.
Rio Rancho will take on Los Alamos in the Pee Wee championship at 10:30 a.m. today at Chapman Hill.
In today's other contest, Crested Butte will take on New Mexico in the Bantam third-place game, scheduled for 10:30
a.m. today at the Chapman Hill Ice Rink.
The tournament is sponsored by Durango Area Youth Hockey.
