Elaine Youngs of Durango still plays volleyball professionally after competing in the 1996, 2004 and 2008 Olympics.
Youngs participates in the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour and the Federation Internationale de Volleyball. At age 40, she is among the oldest players in the competitions. Her best Olympic finish came in 2004, when she won the beach
volleyball bronze medal in Athens. She finished seventh in indoor volleyball at Atlanta in 1996 and fifth in beach
volleyball in China in 2008.
She spends the winter in Durango before returning to Redondo Beach, Calif., where the AVP tour is based, for
Youngs admitted she hasn't watched much of the Winter Olympics aside from a clip of Shaun White's history-making run
in the snowboard halfpipe.
Of course, when the summer Olympics come on, I'm super into it," she said.
