In front of a record house of raucous fans, the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team defended its home court
and No. 1 seed with the program's first regional championship.
Fort Lewis, the sixth-ranked team in the country, is going to the Elite Eight in St. Joseph, Mo.
FLC defeated 3-seed Concordia-St. Paul 73-64 to win the Central Region Tournament on Monday night in front of a
listed attendance of 1,875 fans at Whalen Gymnasium, a record number for a women's game.
They made their presence known, too.
The place got loud and louder with every Audrey George block early in the game, then reached its crescendo with a
pair of back-to-back Laura Haugen 3-pointers late in the game that gave the Skyhawks a final lead they wouldn't
Abby Jackson led all five Skyhawk starters with 17 points.
Katie Mackey scored 15 points and a spot on the all-tournament team.
George had 13 points, six blocks and five steals.
Allison Rosel, the tournament MVP, had 12 points and 17 rebounds.
Haugen had 10 points, a game-high five assists, and was the third Skyhawk to reach the all-tournament team roster.
Fort Lewis (33-3) likely will depart for St. Joseph, Mo., on Sunday, and will play either Seattle Pacific or Chico
State on March 23 at the St. Joseph Civic Arena in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball
