Durango High School theater teacher thrives on new challenges

Troupe 1096 crushes state competition

Durango High School’s Troupe 1096 returned recently from the Thescon thespian convention in Denver which took place Dec. 1-3. The troupe took 27 students, and of those, 16 scored “accomplished,” which qualifies them to compete at nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska, in June. Here are the students who won and their categories:

William Barney, Sound Design
Ataley Villaseñor, Stage Management
Baylee Peterson, Lighting Design
Ana Koshevoy, Musical Theatre Solo
Rebekah Fowler & Shane Minerich, Duet Scene
Tilly Leeder, Solo Monologue
Mckenna Sugar, Solo Monologue
Molly Tommo Christensen, Solo Musical Theatre
Sam Coleman, Scenic Design
Natalie Cohn, Costume Design
Tori Byam, Scenic Design
Grace Wolf, Costume Design
Isabel Whitehead, Costume Construction
Bryce Ward, Stage Management
Additionally, Schiavone and Barney were recognized at the Closing Showcase for their designs, and Mia Irwin won the tech scholarship of $1,000, which can be applied at any school of her choosing.
