The Senate on Tuesday gave final approval to two bills that go easier on people who register their vehicles late.
Late fines soared to up to $100 last year after the Legislature adopted new registration fees to pay for road and
House Bill 1211 knocks the late fines back to $10 for trailers. HB 1212 tells the Department of Revenue to make
exceptions for people who register late because of medical emergencies, weather, computer failures or other factors
beyond their control.

Before this week, the lower fines applied only to trailers that weighed less than a ton.
Now, if the House approves of the change, owners of large horse trailers will get the benefit of lower fines.
