About: Editor Amy Maestas is a native Utahn who graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in journalism and mass communication. She has worked as a journalist for 30 years in various positions and publications, including Deseret News, Bank Investment Representative, The Event Weekly, Inside/Outside magazine and others. Maestas joined The Durango Herald in 1996 as a reporter and covered city government, politics, business and public lands. She has won numerous awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Associated Press and the Colorado Press Association. She is a former board member of Society of Professional Journalists Colorado Pro chapter. She has also participated in exchanges with the International Center for Journalists in Turkey, Armenia and Uganda. In 2012, Maestas completed a journalism and management fellowship program with the Maynard Media Academy at the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University. From 2016-17, she was a Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Read More Hide
