Before that she was a News21 fellow and worked on a national investigation of the Department of Veterans Affairs. News21 is an annual nationwide journalism project funded by the Carnegie-Knight Foundation.

Shinn graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in mass communications in 2013.
