Coalition benefits from golf tournament

Every year, Dalton Ranch Women’s Golf Association and Ladies of the Glacier Club hold a two-day golf tournament, The Columbine Golf Classic. More than 100 women from all over Colorado and New Mexico unite in support of a local charity. This year, they voted to support the Cancer Coalition of Southwest Colorado.

The coalition would like to thank those who attended the tournament, the sponsors, and the organizations and individuals that donated to the silent auction and raffle. The continued generosity from the community is greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank the committee that worked to organize the event. Special kudos go to the Dalton Ranch committee: Cathy Gaskell, Sandy Elliott and Diane Curtis; and the Glacier Club committee: Marina Siepiela and Donna Flynn. Thank you for believing in, and supporting, the Cancer Coalition’s work.

The funds raised by this tournament will assist cancer patients who are struggling to meet everyday expenses.

Housing Solutions thanks St. Columba

Housing Solutions for the Southwest would like to extend gratitude to the caring parishioners at St. Columba Church who so thoughtfully donated to the “Helping Hands” campaign. As a result of their generosity, families moving from homelessness to housing will have new household supplies. Donations, such as dishes, towels and bedding, can make an apartment feel like home. Last year, Housing Solutions for the Southwest helped 37 families and individuals establish permanent housing, and prevented homelessness for 190 families. The care shown by the community continues to inspire us.

Cattlemen thankful for wagon cook-off

The La Plata-Archuleta Cattlemen’s Association thanks the community for supporting the Fiesta Days chuck wagon cook-off. We are proud to showcase locally-produced beef and other food prepared in true Western tradition. We appreciate the generosity of the businesses that sponsored contestant chuck wagons and donated supplies and equipment.

The cook-off would not be possible without the generosity of: American AgCredit, Bank of Colorado, Basin Co-op, Beebe Ranches, Coca-Cola, Community Banks of Colorado, Farmers Fresh Market, First National Bank of Durango, First Southwest Bank, Fresh Off the Press, La Plata County Fairgrounds, La Plata Electric Association, Lucky Bride Ranch, Seventy Seven Outfit, Southwest AG, Sunnyside Meats Plant, Valley Feed and Ranch Supply and Vectra Bank.

Funds from the cook-off help the Cattlemen’s Association provide $1,000 scholarships to college or trade school students. These scholarships are granted to young people with an interest in agriculture.
