Loosen up at the Robot Rumpus

Revelers model their automaton garb at the 2012 Robot Rumpus. The 3rd annual event will be held Saturday night at the Durango Discovery Museum.

The 3rd annual Robot Rumpus is programmed to commence Saturday with treats and eats plus drinks and thinks as guests revel and romp at this robotic-themed cocktail party. Invading the Durango Discovery Museum Powerhouse, Robot Rumpus 3.0 will feature interactive robotic stunts and demos, live music, specialty drinks and other maker-geek surprises.

“We are very excited to bring back Robot Rumpus. Now with fun new features, Version 3.0 is going to be better than ever,” said Ashley Hein, events manager for Durango Discovery Museum. “Fundraisers like this are our bread and butter. We used to throw the very big expensive black tie dinner parties before the museum was open. Now that we are open, our needs have changed, not to mention the space in and of itself. We no longer have a blank slate to work with and we have many supporters from many different demographics that want to be a part of the museum.

Music will be provided by humans - the band Bacon and DJ Mr. E – and the Rumpus will mark the debut of the Powerhouse’s new permanent lighting system. Robotics savant Ryan Finnigan will take over the boiler room theater with his top secret robotics show and Hein promises live dancers and “other crazy entertainment.”
