Bloomfield, New Mexico-based artist Tim Cox’s painting, “Riding out to Meet the Day,” is this year’s official Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering poster.
Cox has been both an artist and cowboy for a long time, he said.
“I’ve always drawn the horses and the Western life; it’s just something I’ve always loved. I’ve been an artist in the galleries since I was 17 years old, and so I’ve been doing the art part and raised pretty much as a cowboy. I started working on a ranch when I was 8 years old, so I’ve been doing it a long time.”
Cox said his work reflects what is current and real.
“I paint only my time; I don’t do historical, secondhand things. It’s things I’ve witnessed,” he said.
Cox will be at Toh-Atin Gallery on Oct. 5 to discuss his work and sign copies of the poster.
